Teja Jeglič is one of the most recognizable Slovenian fashion designers, who has left a distinctive design mark with her handbags. This time, we met Teja in a more intimate light — as a woman, a partner, and a mother expecting her second child. She invited us into her home, where aesthetics are not just a visual decision but a way of life. The space she is creating for herself and her family is warm, subtly coordinated, and distinctly personal — every detail holds meaning, and every corner tells a story. In our conversation, she spoke about the importance of functionality, personal expression, and adapting the home to family life, while also revealing some elements that reflect her recognizable signature in interior design.
How would you describe the atmosphere in your home? What kind of energy did you want to create?
Our home is designed as a space where aesthetics and functionality intertwine. We wanted to create an environment where all family members feel comfortable and relaxed. We paid a lot of attention to lighting, as natural light is very important to us — the spaces are bright, airy, and pleasant. When choosing materials, we prioritized quality and warm tones to achieve a feeling of coziness and warmth. The energy of the home was also crucial to us — we wanted the space to radiate positivity and harmony.
How does your personal style reflect in your home?
Our home is deeply intertwined with our personal style. The designers considered our wishes and incorporated them into the final design. Influences from the world of fashion are reflected in the details, as my everyday life is closely connected to aesthetics. We chose modern yet timeless elements that are both elegant and functional.
Did you design your home yourself or collaborate with professionals? What was most important to you when furnishing it?
We turned to professionals for the basic design, as we wanted the home to be architecturally refined. However, I was heavily involved in the design aspect — I prepared the color scheme and selected the materials and furniture that reflect our personality. It was important to me that the home is cozy and warm, yet also visually appealing and functional. The combination of professional expertise and my personal style turned out to be an excellent decision.
Which part of your home is your favorite and why?
My favorite part of the home is definitely our bathroom — actually, the entire transition from the bedroom to the bathroom. We designed it in a “hotel style” — an open, airy space where the bedroom and bathroom function as a connected whole. The bathroom is spacious, with golden details, just as I had always dreamed. It’s my little corner of luxury and relaxation where I can truly unwind.
Where in your home are most of your business and creative ideas born?
Most of my ideas come to me in the bedroom. When I calm down, my thoughts become clearer. It gives me a sense of security and peace, which helps me to think more easily about new projects.
What colors and materials dominate your home?
Natural wood and glass dominate, with an emphasis on metallic details in gold and black tones. The color palette is neutral — white, beige, brown, and black — giving the home an elegant and timeless look. A more vibrant piece is the emerald-turquoise sofa, which adds freshness and character to the space.
Do you have a piece of furniture or decoration that holds special meaning for you? Is there a story behind it?
Our wine cabinet definitely holds a special place in our home, as both my partner and I are lovers of good, quality wines, and we wanted a unique piece that would be a real showstopper.
When creating a family home, what is most important to you — comfort, aesthetics, or functionality?
It’s hard to choose just one. I prefer to include all three, as they are equally important to me in life.
Where do you retreat when you need time for yourself?
The fitness room is not yet finished, but it already serves as my space for relaxation. This little corner allows me to disconnect, breathe, and gather my thoughts.
How did you adapt your home to the arrival of a new family member? What are your experiences with adapting a home to the needs of small children?
We transformed the office or multipurpose room into a new children’s room. I believe it’s very important to have enough light/shading, good air quality, and enough space for growing up. I find it most practical that the living area is open and spacious enough to accommodate daily activities with the child. It’s not advisable to have furniture with very sharp edges — or at least to protect those parts — until our little one is steady on their feet.
How did you involve your older child in preparing for the arrival of a new family member?
He was happy to participate in preparing the room — he chose details and helped assemble the furniture. This way, he could also prepare himself more easily for the arrival of the new family member.
What does your perfect family day at home look like?
It’s a weekend when we all sleep in and start the day with renewed energy. If the weather is nice, we spend time outside and prepare everything for a barbecue; if the weather is bad, family board games work great. In the evening, we usually gather in the living room and watch a good family movie together.
What does home mean to you?
Home is not just a house with four walls — it truly reflects a part of yourself, your personality, your sense of order, and your attitude towards things.
