Zaha Hadid in Slovenija

When discussing contemporary architecture, the name Zaha Hadid is almost impossible to overlook. Futuristic buildings with undulating lines, bold geometry, and a sense of movement have transformed the landscape of numerous cities, from London to Beijing. Today, her legacy is carried on by Zaha Hadid Architects, which is behind some of the most ambitious projects in contemporary architecture.

An architect who left her mark on contemporary architecture
Zaha Hadid was an architect born in 1950 in Baghdad and based in the United Kingdom. She was considered a pioneer of deconstructivism and the first woman to receive the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize.

Her style often divides public opinion, as some see it as the work of a brilliant artist of the future, while others perceive Zaha as an architect of atypical buildings that often do not fit into their surroundings. Yet it was precisely this boldness that later became her trademark. Among her most famous works are the London Aquatics Centre, the Guangzhou Opera House, the MAXXI Museum, and the BMW Central Building.

Ljubljana, a new destination for world architecture
In the coming years, Slovenia will see its first project designed by the renowned architectural firm Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA). The Severnica office tower is being built in Ljubljana and is set to become the tallest building in the country, as current plans call for it to reach between 100 and 114 meters.

The project will be located on Celovška Road and will significantly transform the northern entrance to the city. The building will have more than 20 floors and space for several hundred employees. The project is drawing particular attention due to its location along the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship (PST), where investors will be required to implement strict environmental measures to protect trees and nature.

For the Severnica tower project in Ljubljana, the local partner of Zaha Hadid Architects is the Slovenian architectural studio Atelje S. According to Forbes Slovenia, they prepared the initial documentation and assisted the London office in adapting the project to Slovenian legislation and spatial requirements.

Zaha Hadid’s Legacy and the Continuation of Her Vision
Although Zaha Hadid passed away in 2016, her influence remains profound. The studio continues to realize her vision of futuristic architecture around the world, and now here in Slovenia as well. The presence of Zaha Hadid Architects in Slovenia means more than just a new high-rise. It is a symbol of international recognition and Slovenia’s integration into contemporary architectural trends. The firm’s projects often become tourist attractions and symbols of a city’s identity.

Ljubljana will thus gain a piece of the global architectural scene, which we have so far mostly admired only abroad.
